All You Need To Know About The New Revolutionary Dating Platform For Queer Indians

What happens when someone queer wants to find a perfect pool of people who are open and eligible for dating? Where do they exactly go? We don’t live in Sex and The City fantasy land where you can just walk out your door or into a club and find yourself a person and fall in love and set off into sunset.

AMOUR is the new buzz in the town. It’s an online dating platform, primarily based on Facebook, and is open for all  queer people irrespective of their gender.

Amour, LGBT, dating, India, Indian, LGBTQIA, Queer, FSOG, Shubham Mehrotra, founder
Launched on June 4th, Amour has already received a great response among the queer community (

“It’s a very pleasant change since almost all the existing platforms are exclusive for gay men or very limitedly inclusive of other queer people, leading to major discontentment among various sections in the queer community.”

“If you are a gay man, you have several options like Planetromeo, Grindr, Scruff, etc,. But what about the other people from the pool of LBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual and many more)?,” said Harish from Gaylaxy magazine.

The Amour Team has worked for almost 2 months on the concept before launching various aspects like the contents of Google form and the other design contents. Amour is not your regular kind of platform where one goes to find people for hook ups, since there are already a lot of other options available for that. They actually wanted to create a platform where anyone can want anything as long as it does not violate any guidelines of the group.

“When we had a deeper discussion with community members we realized that we need to have a group for all the LGBTIQA+ looking for partners since existing groups seem to cater to gay men only. It’s a mainly a dating platform where people can choose their partner(s) with terms of their own for the relationship,” said Karan, admin head of Amour, “we are also trying to make this space void of body shaming or shaming of effeminate, trans or other marginalized members.”

Shilok Mukkati, 20, is a Bangalore-based student and part-time radio host. Identifying as a transgender woman, Shilok feels the public are unable to see past her psychical appearance.

“Many trans people end up with sex work and some are cheated by saying they will be with them. But most trans people end up without relationship. Even inside the community there is trans-phobia. So it’s hard to get a serious relationship.  So I feel this could help us. To find a person who really loves a trans person,” said Shilok Mukkati.

How does it work?

  • STEP 1: Prospective members can get added to the group by existing members or reach the admins by messaging to Amour Facebook page.
  • STEP 2: After some basic verification, admins will approve them to Amour secret Facebook group and also assign a Amour Unique Profile ID (eg. AMR0044).
  • STEP 3: Members are then advised to create their profile by filling the following Google form. You can fill in one or more languages with the same Amour ID. This is NOT compulsory but Amour profile database access is given to only those who fill atleast one of these forms.
  • STEP 4: Members can post their profile content (what they filled in the above sheet) in the secret group to increase their chances of finding partner(s), optionally attaching their pictures so that other members can express their interest. If you are not comfortable to post your own profile, ask a friend or an admin to post on your behalf.
  • STEP 5: You can either search through posted profiles in Facebook secret group or go see through all of them in Amour data base XL sheet. You can view only the relevant ones in XL sheet by applying the filters (Refer to the last question in FAQ on how to apply filters on Google XL sheet).
  • STEP 6: If you like any profile, you can either message/mail them directly if you know their FB/Email ID, or message admins with their Amour ID and your Amour ID, why you think they are a good match for you. Admins can then pass you their email Id/Facebook ID with their consent, so that you can proceed to contact them.
  • STEP 7: Amour plans to have events and regular meetups in various cities or Amour members catch up at different Queer events. So meet other Amour members in these places and get to know each other and it may help you with your dating prospects.

This group is meant not just to find dates but also to create platonic relationships which would help a lot of community members to overcome their reservations about other groups and trans-phobia. It is one of the safe platforms for anyone to express what they are looking for and get a chance to find it, regardless of their sex, sexuality, and preference.
