You have probably heard of the beginner stuff like flavored lube or bullet vibratos. However, here is the next-level gear according to sex-perts. We are talking about anal beads.
In case you’re wondering what they are or are afraid to question about them, we have the answers. Anal beads are a series of shapes (usually round) that are attached to a long string. There is a stopper at the end of the string that helps you insert the beads and pull them out once you’re done.
Anal beads might sound a little intense. But sex experts swear that they are just another great tool that you have to try in the bedroom.
What is so great about these anal beads?
Anal beads are typically used to enhance your orgasm during sex. Sex therapist Debra Laino says, “The beads are inserted slowly into the rectum and pulled out at varying speeds before or during orgasm.”
You can find anal beads that are more rigid. They can be inserted and pulled out like a dildo. But there are also a few soft ones that you can insert at a time, and remove them and then insert them again. Jess O’Reilly is the host of @SexWithDrJess Podcast. She explains, “Some strands leave space between each bead and others are arranged with the beads in contact with one another.” She adds, “The anal sphincter muscles will respond with each insertion and removal.”
If your feeling adventurous, here are a few things you need to know about anal beads and how to actually use them if you’re ready to take the plunge.
They make you feel good
The whole point of using anal beads is to make you feel good. The anal beads stimulate the erogenous zone in your anus. The co-director of Modern Sex Therapy Institutes says that anal beads can stimulate the anal sphincter muscles when you move in and out. They can be used to enhance your orgasms or just add new sensations.
Butt plugs are different
Butt plugs also go in your butt however, they are different from anal beads. A butt plug stays inside once it is inserted. Whereas, anal beads are inserted in and out to provide pleasure. The butt plugs stimulate the nerves in the anus similar to anal beads. Moreover, they stimulate the internal part of the clitoris and G-spot. That is one reason why women like to wear one during vaginal penetration.
Lube is key
A good lubricant is required as your anus does not make its own. And lube is a must with anal beads. O’Reilly advises, “Many folks prefer silicone-based lube for anal play, but if your beads are also silicone, use a slippery water-based lube.”
Just bead is probably not a good idea
Beads are not your go-to toy for sex. Technically there are inserted in and out and will go about your day. However, they are typically used while doing other things like foreplay, oral sex, or penetrative sex.
So make sure to mix things up once in a while.
You get all kinds of beads out there. They range from being super hard to super soft. Silicon anal beads is probably the safest option and are gentle on your body. Moreover, it is non-porous which means it does not harbor bacteria. However, stainless steel is also non-porous, but silicon is less intimidating, especially for beginners.
Rigid or soft strand
You may find soft strands to be a better start, but O’Reilly says that rigid strands are easier to insert. She explains, “You’ll need to press each bead in with a finger if it’s a softer strand of beads.” She also adds that rigid strands can simply be pushed using the stopper at the end.
Take things slow
Sex experts advise not to go straight to penetration. It is recommended to tease the outside of your anus before actually diving in. When you are inserting the anal bead keep in mind that it should not hurt. It might feel strange at first but O’Reilly says, “differentiating between unusual sensations versus painful ones is of paramount importance.”
Communication is important
Feedback is very important when you are using anal beads with your partner. In fact, try to over-communicate when using these with your partner. This is to ensure that your partner knows exactly what feels good in terms of depth, pressure, angle, and movement. Especially when something feels off, speak up as soon as possible.
Your butt has a lot of bacteria and of course that bacteria is going to get on your beads. Laino says, “Sanitizing is super important because of the bacteria in the rectum. Proper cleaning is a must as it is a very easy way to transmit an STI.”
To clean them wash your beads with warm water and soap after every use. Also, allow them to dry before you store them. If you are using lube with the beads, make sure to sanitize your lube bottle afterward too.
