This Tuesday, on the 1st of December 2020, we witnessed a monumental declaration by an Oscar-nominated Hollywood star. Elliot page, formerly known as Ellen Page came out as Transgender in a very heartfelt and powerful post on Instagram. He took this opportunity to thank all those who supported him in his journey of accepting who he really was; and also appreciated the tireless efforts of the Trans community to make this world “a more inclusive and compassionate place”; also stating that he will continue to support the community and spare no effort to make the society we live in; more loving and equal for all.
Happy, But Concerned:
Along with expressing his joy and gratitude; Elliot also voiced his concern for the possible backlash that he might have to experience after his coming out. Although extremely happy and celebrating his decision, Elliot also wanted to bring the reality forward. He wanted to address the fact that the Trans community faces a shocking amount of discrimination and violence. He mentioned that in 2020 itself there were cases of at least 40 transgender people who were murdered. And sadly, most of them were Black and Latinx Transwomen.
With his post and his coming out, he has also addressed all the politicians and the people with influence; who continue to attack and condemn the Trans Community. He very bravely and correctly said that such people, who try to criminalize Trans health care and are always pouring out hatred and hostility towards the community; “have blood on their hands”. The blood of all those Trans men and women who try to commit suicide because they were never accepted in the society; and thought it better to end this misery of living in a society that is so outrageously discriminate against the Trans community. And also the blood of those people who were brutally attacked and murdered mercilessly just because they were Transgender.
“To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self loathing, abuse and the threat of violence everyday: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”
Elliot called out such transphobic and abusive people for hurting Trans people such as himself. He also added that enough is enough and the Trans community will not stay silent in the face of such attacks and total disregard any longer. Its high time that the Trans community be treated with equal love and kindness; as equal humans!
A Flood Of Love and Support:
On the brighter side; there were innumerable people who congratulated Elliot on this special day and sent him all their love. A number of Hollywood super stars including Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman, James Gunn, Ian McKellen and a lot more; showered their love, support and admiration for Elliot. Countless people applauded Elliot for his courage and honesty. The wave of encouragement and support pouring in for Elliot; is not just limited to Hollywood. Movements like GLAAD, an LGBTQ+ charity and TGI Justice Project, that works for the Queer community in California prisons and detention centers, also congratulated him.
Numerous people from the LGBTQ+ community have also shared their joy with Elliot. People are looking up to him and are admiring his bravery and courage. People from all over the world are glad to see Elliot accepting himself and striving to live a life according to what he genuinely feels like; being true to himself.
A True Inspiration
How Elliot came out to the world is truly commendable and filled our hearts with all the love and respect for him. He touched a few points that are relevant and need to be addressed by all. Its everyone’s responsibility to make this world a place that treats everyone as equal humans and does not discriminate in any way.
As long as we are unable to accept and celebrate all people and respect everyone’s different choices and lifestyles; we will continue to live in a sad world. But people like Elliot and the entire LGBTQ+ community, who are willing to fight for themselves and have come a long way to truly make their place in this world; certainly restore hope in our hearts!
We congratulate Elliot from the bottom of our hearts and are brimming with love and Pride!
