When Prince Harry Fought Off Homophobia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the limelight for their recent announcement. But what skipped the limelight is a moving incident that had the Prince all sorts of offended. Prince Harry stood up for a fellow soldier and made sure equality set back in.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have often caught our attention doing things that are normal for the commoners but unexpected from the royals. The Duke of Sussex has unabashedly been himself and is unafraid to stand for things he believes in. The couple has been on the news often whether it is their approach to parenting or their fashion choices.

Either way, the duo is making some changes to how they lead their lives. And honestly, most of it seems like things anyone in an influential position should do. But this is not a recent change that Markle or Prince Harry has gone through. They have both constantly worked towards making the world around them a better place. And here’s a throwback from Prince Harry’s past. A snippet from his colleague that proves Prince Harry knows what’s what.

Prince Harry: Leave the Soldier Alone!

A gay soldier from Prince Harry’s Platoon decided to tell the world about an incident. An incident that shows that the Duke of Sussex is no fan of bigotry. In an article with the Forces News Network, James Wharton revealed what had occurred. On Friday, Wharton spoke about Prince Harry stepping up. James Wharton is known as “the first openly gay serviceman to feature on the front of SOLDIER Magazine,”

He recounted the incident that happened back in 2008 that had Harry “offended.” Here’s the story.

I’d got myself into a bit of a situation with some soldiers from another regiment and, essentially, they didn’t like the fact I was gay…they were sort-of chest poking me and making me feel quite uncomfortable.

I got into my tank where Prince Harry was doing something, and he could see that I was clearly affected by something and he asked me what the problem was. I told him that there were a couple of soldiers outside who weren’t very happy with the fact I was gay.

Quite offended that his gunner was being picked on by these people, Prince Harry went out and saw these soldiers and spoke to them, and the problem went away. He told them off and they left me alone.

Serving In The British Army

As required by law in the United Kingdom, Prince Harry served in the British Army. For 10 years of his life, he served as the second lieutenant or lieutenant. He most likely served in Afghanistan. Wharton went on to give more details about Prince Harry as a soldier.

Wharton said that the Duke was a good soldier. He added, “He knew how to do his job, he was skilled, he took the time to know his people, he wasn’t afraid to get himself involved with things that were going on. It wasn’t uncomfortable, we weren’t being careful with what we said,” recalled Wharton. “He was just able to embed himself into our community because he was one of us.”

Better Than Before

Influential people often thrive doing better than before, and better than the rest. It pushes them to learn from their own, and others’ mistakes. This forces them to rethink their approach and automatically step up their game.

Preaching is a big part of being a public figure. What you do and say affects a lot of minds. And Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have never shied away from the public. They cannot afford to. But when the duo said that they want to step away from their senior roles in the Royal Family and live a private life together, it created serious ripples. But the attempt is to forge a “progressive new role” where the duo is “financially independent” of the crown. And they will still support the Queen publicly.

The Duke and his wife have also made life-altering decisions even for their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. They have decided to take a gender-neutral parenting approach to raise him. Back in 2018, the couple discussed LGBT+ rights with Jacob Thomas. Markle was found saying that LGBT+ rights are simply basic human rights. The coupe also spoke publicly about decreasing the suicide rates within the LGBT+ community. And this was back in 2018. In 2019, they also showed their support during Pride month and shared posts on their official Instagram accounts to share their thoughts about it. The duo is exceptionally informed about the ongoings within the community and has always been pro-LGBT+. And we honestly stan this amazingly progressive Royal couple and hope to see them flourish in the future!
