Sex benefits the heart

Sex is an activity that requires a lot of movement. Partnered sex can have a great effect on cardiovascular health. Especially on women.

A study carried out in 2016 looked at the potential benefits of sexual activity. The research found that sex benefits a woman when it comes to her risk of cardiac events. It usually makes a difference in later events in life.

However, the study also came to the conclusion that high levels of sexual activity would increase the risk of cardiovascular events in men. This conclusion contradicts earlier research. Moreover, future studies are still verifying the risks.

Those who have heart problems should ask a doctor about how much sex is safe for the. The doctor would be able to specify the regularity and the intensity of engaging in sexual activity. People with heart problems generally are advised to not have rigorous sex as it may cause strain on the heart.

Sex reduces blood pressure

The study that happened in 2016 also measures as one of the markers of a healthy heart. Researchers noticed that women in their old age suffered less likely from having high blood pressure. This was after knowing that these women express satisfaction with their sex lives in their earlier days.

However, the same studies were not found in older men. But according to the American Heart Association (AHA), high blood pressure can affect a man’s libido and also his ability to achieve and maintain an erection.

There are medications that curb high blood pressure. But these medications can reduce libido and cause erectile dysfunction. Even though this does not confirm a benefit, there is a link between blood pressure and sexual health.

Those who have high blood pressure have concerns when it comes to sexual intercourse. Getting insight from the doctors is always better. Even though it is safe for people with high blood pressure to have sex. Even when you are on hypertension medication and it is causing you sexual difficulties, it is better to talk to a doctor who will be able to prescribe a different medication to relieve the adverse effects.

Some research has found that engaging in regular sex can increase the effectiveness of one’s immune system. The studies show that those who have frequent sex had more immunoglobin A in their system. Immunoglobin is an antibody that lives in the mucosal tissue.

It is important to note that this study appeared in 2004. And researches have not repeated it since then.

However, a more recent study studies small groups of women to see if there was a difference in the immune activity of those who were sexually active and those who were not.

This study examined these women’s immune system’s ability to kill different infections. The results suggested that there might be some differences between the groups. But the authors say more research is needed before coming to conclusions.

Reduces prostate cancer

A study in 2004 found that a high frequency of ejaculation may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. The researchers studied almost 30,000 men. They looked at how often they ejaculated at different points in their lives. The conclusion was that men who ejaculated more than 21 times in a month have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those men who ejaculated only 4-7 times per month.

The researchers extended this study in 2016 for another ten years. They continued the research on participants to see how much risk they had of developing prostate cancer.

This study also had similar findings to the study in 2004. The males who ejaculated more often have a lower risk of prostate cancer than those who did it less often.

One cannot deny that sex can be a natural stress reliever. A study in 2019 looked at how intimacy with a partner had an effect on cortisol levels. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that circulates the body in response to stress.

The study found that intimacy helped bring the cortisol levels to a normal range in both men and women. Moreover, sex releases oxytocin, endorphins and other feel-good hormones which may reduce stress effects.
