Have you heard of ‘The L Word’? Aired in the early 2000s (2004 – 2009), the show was set in the busy street of Los Angeles. It captured the intertwined lives of a group of lesbian friends, with its main protagonist Jenny. She moves to Los Angeles to live with her boyfriend but soon starts to question her sexual orientation after certain encounters. Then, there is Bette and Tina, a lesbian couple, Alice, who is a magazine writer, and Shane, a hairdresser who just can’t seem to date one woman. Mia Kirshner, Jennifer Beals, Pam Grier, Laurel Holloman, Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey, and Katherine Moennig star in this series.
But why are we suddenly talking about a drama series that was aired over 10 years ago? Because It looks like the show is getting ready to make a come back in their latest ‘Generation Q’ season.
Have you seen the teaser trailer for ‘The L Word: Generation Q’
That’s right! A month ago, the first teaser trailer for the all-new season dropped and featured the iconic Bette, Alice, and Shane taking on the city of Los Angeles. Jennifer Beal’s Bette is getting ready to become mayor for L.A. Leisha Hailey returns to the screen as Alice. And finally, Katherine Moennig’s Shane hasn’t lost her charm and is still the raining ‘queen of hookups’.
This time around, it seems as though the show is set in Silver Lake, Los Angeles rather than where the original series was set, West Hollywood. Furthermore, Shane seems to have moved back from somewhere else, while Alice might have her own talk show. Isn’t it frustrating when teasers reveal so little? All we got to see are the careers of 3 iconic characters, snippets of their careers and some new character whom we know nothing about. If you haven’t seen the first teaser, check out the video below.
Finally! A second installment to the teasers from the reboot series just dropped!!
Take a deep breath, open your YouTube page, and get ready to watch the new trailer from Generation Q that seems to have us all excited. We finally get a few more hints from the latest trailer that continues to give a glimpse of Bette, Alice and Shane’s lives. The teaser titled ‘Love is Life’ is only 50 seconds long. However, it seems to give its eagerly waiting fans a little sneak-peak into the atmosphere that surrounds the new reboot. And it everything to do with romance and sex. Hence, the thematic title of the video ‘Love is Life’.
So if you haven’t had a chance to watch the freshly-released teaser, not to worry, you can find the video above. But what is the reboot show all about? Advocate writes, “Screenwriter and playwright Marja-Lewis Ryan (The Four-Faced Liar) is the showrunner who’s shepherding a new generation of LGBTQ people into the world of characters who once congregated at the fictional café The Planet”.
But who are the new characters on Generation Q?
We are unable to get much information about the new series from its teasers, so then who are the new characters in the show? Well, casting news might just have the answers. The L Word welcomes Jordi played by trans actress Sophie Giannamore (gues-star). Who is Jordi? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordi is “a rebellious teen with absent parents”. Olivia Thirlby Fortune Feimster will be guest-starring on the show too. She will portray kind-hearted Rebecca, who unfortunately finds herself “attracted to the wrong kind of women”.
Arienne Mandi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni and Rosanny Zayas are going to be part of Generation Q’s regular cast. If you are curious about their characters than keep reading. But if you want to build the suspense and wait to know who they play then SPOILER ALERT!
Arienne Mandi will be starring as Dani Nùñez. Dani is “a powerful and calculating PR executive whose ambition is only tested by her conscience.” Jacqueline Toboni who regularly acted on the show Grimm seems to be the most experienced actress of the new recruits. She will be portraying Sara, an assistant who is “charming but unfocused”. Sara is struggling to bring a balance between her “religious unbringing” and her sexual orientation.
Then there is Leo Sheng. He will have his debut in this year’s film ‘Adam’. In Generation Q, he will take on the role of Micah Lee. Lee is a transman and “an earnest, soft-spoken adjunct professor who is forced to confront his fear of vulnerability”.
Finally, we have Rosanny Zayas. She is also starring the 7th season of Orange Is the New Black. She will play Sophie in The L Word, “a TV producer who guards her heart and is quick to put other people’s needs before her own”.
So there you have it, folks! All you could know about the reboot. Now, all we have to do is wait for the new season that drops this December 8th, 2019 with eight episodes, which is easier said than done.
