Khary Payton, who plays Ezekiel in “The Walking Dead” proudly introduced his transgender son to the world on June 15th 2020. He revealed this news through an emotional post on Instagram, which made us all happy weep. After reading this story, we’re sure you will be shedding happy tears too.
Karter is the name:
Payton portrays King Ezekiel in this hit AMC series. This 48 year old proud father posted a picture of his son in safety gear, on Instagram. The post reads: “This my kid. One of the most happy, well-adjusted individuals I’ve ever known.”
In his lengthy post, he went on to explain the reason why his son chose that name. “My son, Karter. Karter with a K because it reminded him of my name. He chose it.” Yes, we just shed another round of happy tears.
Karter is now truly happy:
“You see, he was born female but has always identified as a boy”, wrote Khary in his post.
It’s a known story that many trans people find it extremely hard to live as the person they don’t identify as. Most trans people experience gender dysphoria, and other severe issues because of who they were born as. Even from an early age, it’s proven, kids identify that they are different. There have been reported cases, where the kids flat out hated their names – which conform them to a specific gender – even.
Also, transitioning before puberty is a lot more easier when compared to after puberty. If the kids undergo surgery at a younger age, they will grow easily into the person they want to be. However, this decision falls in the hands of parents. If they understand what their child is going through, they will automatically end up choosing the right thing for their ward.

This my kid. One of the most happy, well-adjusted individuals I’ve ever known. My son, Karter. Karter with a K because it reminded him of my name. He chose it. You see, he was born female but has always identified as a boy. He thought it would be cool if I announced it on social media. I told him that there would be so many supporters but also a lot of jerks who would be harsh. He said, “Yeah, I know about trolls, daddy. I can handle trolls.” 😅 Man, there is nothing more beautiful than watching your child feel the joy of exploring what it means to be true to themselves. This is his journey, and I am here for it. I hope you all have the opportunity to feel the unquenchable love that I am feeling right now.
Many parents have taken the right decision, and Khary Payton falls under this category too. He embraced his child, and gave Karter what he needed, deserved. Now Karter is a happy, happy child.
